Kaiser opening a New Medical School in 2019

With the call for more doctors nationwide, new medical schools are popping up all over the nation. Almost always, schools sprout from well known universities across the nation; while others open additional sites such as Mayo AZ. But this time, the new kid in town is not affiliated with a university but to a healthcare giant. The new school is Kaiser Permanente School of Medicine and it will be located in Pasadena, CA.

To some this may been like a decision from left field, but if we review Kaiser's history it seems like a natural evolution. Kaiser already trains over 600 residents in Kaiser facilities and they also run of the Kaiser Permanente School of Allied Health offerings certificate programs dating back to 1989 with the development of the Kaiser School of Radiology.

The school advertises they will offer generous financial aid packages and be genuinely holistic in their application process so things look promising! Through spiral learning, subjects will be revisited routinely and the school will focus on educating lifelong learners and use small group and case-based learning techniques. The school will also help students understand health disparities in underserved communities that hinder the healing process. Although these concepts are nothing new to the industry, they state that they have more flexibility to be innovative, a trademark Kaiser is proud to embrace at the corporate level.

So if you are looking for another medical school to consider, research Kaiser this year and consider adding it to your list next summer. They will open in 2019 with a class of 48.
